Class Description: This is a beginning language arts course. Explode the Code is a research-based, multi-sensory, Orton-Gillingham program that builds essential literacy skills through systematic, phonics instruction. It provides a comprehensive overview of phonological awareness, decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency and spelling. Students will gain the skills they need to read words, phrases, sentences, and stories on their own.

Class time will consist of a new lesson, spelling practice, a hands-on activity or game, and time in the workbook. Grammar and writing concepts are sprinkled throughout. Each student is expected to complete the rest of the lesson at home. We will cover short vowels, consonant blends, silent e and introduce digraphs and vowel digraphs.
