Class Description: Visual Art is a two-semester course designed to teach students to apply the elements of art and the principles of design. Students will enjoy using a variety of media, techniques, processes, and tools to create original artwork. These basic concepts are introduced at an introductory level. As students progress through the course, they will develop, expand, and increase their ability to create, critique, reflect, and make connections to art. Students will develop portfolios that reflect their personal growth. Visual Art will satisfy the one-half credit fine arts requirement for graduation.

(This all sounds very serious, but we have a great time and a lot of fun!)

• How does art reflect history, culture and society?
• Why is it important for artists to maintain a body of work?

1st 9 Weeks: Introduction to Elements of Art  

Students will be skilled at… 

• Students will generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
• Students will organize and develop artistic ideas and work. 
• Students will analyze, interpret, and select artistic work for presentation.

2nd 9 Weeks: Application of Elements of Art 

Students will be skilled at…

• Students will refine and complete artistic work.
• Students will convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work.
• Students will apply criteria to evaluate artistic work.

3rd 9 Weeks: Principles of Design  

Students will be skilled at…

• Students will perceive and analyze artistic work.

4th 9 Weeks: Application of Principles of Design 

Students will be skilled at… 

• Students will synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art. 
• Students will relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding.

$85 Supply Fee, due at Enrollment.  Non-refundable after 2nd class is over. Covers all supplies for the full year. Please make checks payable to OKHSA and not me personally!
