Class Description: Hermen, who?! 😊 I know the term hermeneutics can be intimidating, but it is simply the study of how we interpret the Bible. How can we, as Paul writes in 2 Timothy 2:15, “rightly divide the truth,” or said another way, how can we effectively and correctly interpret the Bible? That’s hermeneutics.
In this course, the student will learn methods of interpretation that accurately determine meaning and learn how to apply that meaning to their lives. We will spend a considerable amount of time learning how to interpret the different genres, or types of writing, in the Bible. (For example, you read an Old Testament narrative differently that you read a New Testament letter.) Along the way, the student will learn how to use several simple tools and resources for Bible study that are helpful and can be used for a lifetime of studying God’s Word! In the end, my goal is to have each student walk away feeling equipped to study the Bible on his/her own and be more fascinated by and more hungry for this stunning Book than ever before!
For each week, I will have a homework assignment to go along with the topic discussed in class to give the student more practice – it’s super important that they practice the concepts that we are learning before we move on!
Teacher Biography: Hello! My name is Laura Lamb. I am blessed to be the wife of Jeff and the mother of four amazing kids: Jaxon, Cooper, Asher, and Katelynn. For the past 15 years, we have been a homeschooling family, cherishing the journey of growing together while seeking God and His glory in our lives. The Lord has graciously allowed me to serve as a Children’s Director at our previous church in Texas, led me to lead a Mom’s Group for five years, and currently, I serve in Childcare and lead a Discipleship Group at my church, FBC Newcastle.
I am thrilled about the opportunity to teach your students about the Word of God! Understanding the layout, history, and methods of studying the Bible for oneself is a priceless gift. My hope is that your students will develop a deeper love, hunger, and confidence in the Word of God after taking this course.
