IEW will be our main source for weekly writing assignments, which vary between writing from facts and creative assignments as students practice writing from an outline, use multiple sources (and cite them), retell narrative stories, and master the 5-paragraph essay, all while learning to write with flair. There will also be weekly reading assignments on the literature books and some special papers based off of them, including persuasive and comparative essays, a character analysis, and a descriptive writing paper . We will spend some time in class discussing the literature that is being read as well as some poems, short stories, fairy tales, and myths that I will provide.

Required Literature:
Around the World in Eighty Days – Jules Verne
Two Old Women – Velma Wallis
Julius Caesar – Shakespeare
Everything Sad is Untrue – Daniel Nayeri
Things Fall Apart – Chinua Achebe

Teacher Biography: I’m in my 15th year of homeschooling and as of May, 2026, have graduated two of my children from high school. I’m familiar with IEW’s Structure and Style through teaching it to my own children at home as well as in a classroom setting several times. This will be my second year teaching High School English and I’m so excited! I’m passionate about Literature and finding Goodness, Truth, and Beauty in stories.
