Class Description: In this hands-on culinary class, students will explore the vibrant flavors and traditions of Korean cuisine while learning practical cooking skills. Together we will prepare a variety of authentic Korean dishes including main meals, traditional side dishes (banchan), and a classic dessert or two. Students will learn foundational techniques such as knife skills, seasoning with traditional ingredients, rice preparation, and balancing the sweet, salty, spicy, and fermented flavors that define Korean food.
Along the way, students will also be introduced to basic Korean vocabulary related to ingredients, cooking methods, and common dishes. Brief cultural discussions will help students understand how food connects to Korean history, family traditions, and everyday life.
By the end of the course, students will have prepared and tasted a range of Korean recipes and gained confidence in the kitchen while expanding their cultural awareness through food.

Teacher Biography: Hi, I’m Tracy. Our family recently retired from the U.S. Army, and over the years we have had the opportunity to live in several different places around the world. We spent two years living in South Korea and six years in Germany, experiences that deepened my appreciation for learning about cultures through their food. Living in South Korea gave me the opportunity to experience Korean cuisine more closely, and I’m excited to introduce students to many of the flavors and traditions that make it so unique.
I enjoy cooking, experimenting with new recipes, baking bread and learning traditional cooking methods. Outside of the kitchen, I enjoy gardening, spending time with my husband and our three daughters, camping, playing games, and watching movies.
I believe the kitchen is a wonderful place for students to build confidence, creativity, and practical life skills while discovering new flavors from around the world.
