Class Description: Students will read age-appropriate chapter books and engage in meaningful discussions each week. Students will take turns leading the discussion, sharing their thoughts, and asking questions. We will read aloud and integrate tone, pitch, volume in our readings. This collaborative approach not only encourages critical thinking but also develops communication and listening skills. We will discuss story elements, comprehension questions through games (some handouts), and complete hands on activities or projects (one being a dioramas and a 5 paragraph essay).

Paragraph writing will be introduced and integrated throughout the year to build up to a 5 paragraph essay to be presented towards the end of the year.

Parents, we will tackle the book Number the Stars. It does contain some difficult topics that we will address. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to me.

Homework will include some grammar practice, writing assignments, literature reading, and answering questions. Students will be responsible for homework each week.

Approximate time for homework each week outside of class: 1-3 hours
